On Wednesday 10 October 2012, Adelaide Law School Senior Lecturer Dr Bernadette Richards spoke at ‘The Science Exchange’ at RiAus on the topic of Xenotransplantation, along with panelists Dr Toby Coates from the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Professor Anthony D’Apice from St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
Xenotransplantation – taking organs from animals and transplanting them into humans is an alternative to using human organs, a limited resource, for donation. The panelists discussed whether this is possible and what ethical and social issues are involved.
